Substrates & Surface Preparation General Galvanized Steel Surfaces must be clean and dry. Employ adequate methods to remove dirt, dust, oil and all other contaminants that could interfere with adhesion of the coating. For all surfaces prime with specific Carboline primer as recommended by your Carboline sales representative. Refer to the specific primer’s Product Data Sheet for detailed requirements of the specified primer. Prime with specific Carboline primer as recommended by your Carboline Sales Representative. Refer to the specific primer’s Product Data Sheet for substrate preparation requirements. Previously Painted Surfaces Lightly sand or abrade to roughen and degloss the surface. Existing paint must attain a minimum 3B rating in accordance with ASTM D3359 “XScribe” adhesion test. FAQs

What are the key performance features of Carbothane® 134 HG?

It provides a high-gloss, durable finish with exceptional weathering performance and strong resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and chemical exposure. The datasheet highlights high solids/low VOC, excellent flow for spray or roller, and indefinite recoatability.

How should galvanized steel surfaces be prepared before applying the coating?

Surfaces must be clean and dry, with dirt, dust, oil, and other contaminants removed to ensure adhesion. A specific Carboline primer is required, following the primer Product Data Sheet recommendations.

What application mixing ratio and typical dry film thickness are specified?

The mix ratio is 4:1 by volume (Part A: Part B). Dry film thickness is specified as 50–70 microns, with theoretical coverage of 14 m²/l at 50 microns.
