I have grown to appreciateand love its unhurried atmosphere, its charm -half country village and half seaside town -and I have enjoyed the friendly hospitality ofits inhabitants. The history of the New Church cause inBrightlingsea goes back,I believe, for morethan 150 years, and is rich in anecdotes. Butthere is much more history to be unfolded in thefuture if opportunities are taken for proclaimingthe Heavenly Doctrines of the New Jerusalem andremonstrating their reasonableness, their al1-round usefulness, and their relevance to theproblems of all manner of ordinary people. I have every confidence that the New Churchcause will prosper in Brightlingsea and I commendthis Souvenir Booklet issued on the occasion ofthe centenary anniversary of the opening of thechurch in Queen Street on Thursday,April 16,1868. HERBERT MONGREDIEN President of the General Conferenceof the New Church The occasion of the 100th anniversary ofthe opening of our Queen Street Church is anobvious and appropriate opportunity on whichto look back over the 155 years during whicha New Church Society has existed in Bright-lingsea.
