BES321498 - Plumbing Revit MEP - Drop and Go

Oct 28, 2026

BES321498 outlines a Revit MEP training focused on creating and using out-of-the-box plumbing categories, connectors, and plumbing families to improve plumbing design workflows. The session explains naming techniques for Shared, Project, and Family-based parameters, and how to develop content and processes that move plumbing information through systems into schedules. It also addresses strategies for meeting International Plumbing Code (IPC) and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) requirements as a basis for fixture-demand calculation and design. Multiple objectives and workflow steps guide attendees from family content development through schedule data population.

This session will include a demonstration of improved plumbing Revit MEP design workflows that use software features to automate information flow. We will discuss lessons learned during content development, and we will review processes. We will also demonstrate strategies for addressing International Plumbing Code (IPC) and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) requirements to build a foundation for calculation and design of plumbing fixture demands. Speakers Setah Burford is a Plumbing Designer with 14 years of CAD / Revit / BIM experience at Bridgers & Paxton Consulting Engineers. He has designed plumbing systems for government, medical, laboratory, K-12, university, fire station, dormitory, parking structure, zoo and brewery facilities. He is the B&P BIM Committee member responsible for Plumbing Content, Process and Training integration. Setah’s professional certifications and affiliations include: Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD), Certified Green Plumbing Designer (GPD), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) membership and Autodesk Professional Certifications for AutoCAD (2013), Revit Architecture (2015) and Revit MEP Mechanical (2015 and 2017) . [SNBurford@bpce.com](SNBurford@bpce.com) Ron Balmer has twenty-six years of combined experience in MEP, Education, Architecture, Facilities Management and Industrial Engineering. He has been an AutoCAD user since version 11, and a Revit user since 2009. His career began in drafting and design and progressed through engineering and project management to BIM Management. He is an Autodesk Certified Professional in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture and Revit MEP Mechanical and combines his software expertise with his training in Industrial Engineering and Lean Manufacturing to develop content and processes that are efficient and practical. As the BIM Manager for Bridgers & Paxton, he manages a team of BIM Coordinators in project setup, model management and Revit support while leading and directing all corporate BIM activities. Being a long time AU attendee, he felt it was time to get in front of the audience and provide some insight into lessons he has learned as an AEC BIM professional.
