Sep 20, 2026

This document serves as an official examination paper for the B.A. Semester VI (CBCS) program, specifically for the subject of Indian Poetics (Course CCE-21), conducted in July 2022. The paper is structured to assess students' comprehensive understanding of classical Sanskrit literary theories, focusing on foundational concepts such as the Rasa theory, the development of the Alankara School, Kuntaka's theory of poetic expression (Vakrokti), and Abhinavagupta's Dhvani theory. Each section presents theoretical questions followed by analytical alternatives, requiring students to discuss specific schools of thought, explain the role of linguistic power in poetry, and identify key definitions provided by classical scholars like Bhamah. The assessment emphasizes critical inquiry into the evocation of Rasa and the mechanics of suggestion in poetic discourse, culminating in a series of short-note requirements that test factual retention of terms such as Sabda Sakti and Sthayi Bhava. The document is designed for academic evaluation, testing both rote knowledge of historical literary developments and the ability to apply conceptual frameworks to critical literary analysis.
