In the glossary at the end of this self-study programme you will find an explanation of all terms which are shown in italics and indicated by an arrow ↗ . Introduction Engine description and special features The next generation of the 4-cylinder petrol engine developed by Audi has the designation “EA888 evo4”. Many aspects of the 2-litre turbocharged direct injection engine have been modified to reduce emissions further and provide even better performance. The changes include new injectors, an increase in injection pressure from 200 to 350 bar and improvements with regard to internal friction. The acoustic properties have also been improved further. Emissions have been improved by increasing the volumes of the petrol particulate filters and catalytic converters, ensuring that the vehicles comply with the emission standard required by law. Audi offers the engines in 3 power classes (PC) and in both longitudinal and transverse layouts. The B-cycle (BC ↗) combustion process is used in the PC1 engines; refer to SSP 645 "Audi 2.0l TFSI engines EA888 series". The longitudinal PC2 engine is also offered in combination with an electric motor. As in the past, the engines are installed in many vehicles throughout the whole VW Group.
