API Freshwater Master Test Kit instructions explain how KH (alkalinity) and GH (general hardness) influence aquarium water chemistry, especially pH stability. The guide details how to rinse test tubes, safely handle reagents, and mix tubes by inverting at the indicated time to avoid contamination. It also describes why testing pH, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates matters for fish and plant health, nitrogen-cycle balance, algae control, and preventing sudden ecosystem stress or crashes.

FAQs

What does KH (alkalinity) do in aquarium water?

KH measures the carbonate and bicarbonate content and helps keep pH stable. Low KH can make the tank too acidic and cause sharp pH shifts.

How should test tubes be cleaned after finishing the tests?

Rinse the tubes right away to prevent staining. Run water through the tube, gently open the cap without twisting it, and avoid getting residue on skin.

Which water parameters does the API Freshwater Master Test Kit measure and why?

It measures pH, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. These help prevent fish stress or disease, support the nitrogen cycle balance, and control algae growth.
