FAQs

How does the syllabus define the three communication modes in the AP Spanish Language and Culture course?

The course targets interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication modes. Students develop proficiency through activities aligned to each mode, with preliminary assessments and ongoing performance opportunities throughout the year.

Quarter grades are point-based. Timeliness is emphasized: grades are lowered one full letter grade for each day an assignment is submitted late, and various assessment types have defined point values (e.g., homework, tests, notebook, oral assessments).

What assessment tools support monitoring progress over the year?

Students complete preliminary assessments that form the basis of a portfolio. Additional components include a writing portfolio that tracks students’ written work and a cultural contacts portfolio where students document cultural engagement activities in a paper or electronic format.
