AP Environmental Science summer assignment prepared to help students review foundational scientific skills and succeed in a rigorous introductory college-level environmental science course. Students analyze environmental problems involving natural and human-made systems, assess associated risks, and evaluate alternative solutions. Part 1 focuses on completing a legislation table covering major environmental laws and treaties with purpose and key organizations or points. Additional sections prepare students for calculator-free math skills.

Welcome to AP Environmental Science!! This course is designed to be comparable to an introductory college environmental science course. Students will apply scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world. Students will also identify and analyze environmental problems, both natural and humanmade, and evaluate the risks associated with these problems while examining alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. I’ve prepared a summer assignment to give students a quick review of some basic scientific skills. AP coursework is rigorous and requires students to go above and beyond the expectations of regular biology classroom. This summer work will ensure that students have the skills needed to be successful throughout the class. Students can complete the summer work on their own, or they can complete the summer work during the West AP Science Skills Camp on June 11th through June 14th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The AP Science Skills Camp will be very interactive, allowing students opportunities to design experiments and carry out these investigations. This year students will use spectrophotometry to explore factors that influence the growth of E. coli and determine the bacteria’s biotic potential and carrying capacity. Students will also investigate the reproductive abilities of the giant panda and its importance to the ecosystem in which it lives. These practical applications give students a real-world experience that will allow them to apply the quantitative skills of graphing, data analysis, hypothesis testing and mathematical modeling that they will use throughout the year. There is no fee associated with the camp and students who wish to attend should contact me if they have not already registered. I am available during the summer if students need assistance. I can be contacted via email, [at](at mbloom@jths.org)[ ](at mbloom@jths.org)[mbloom@jths.org](at mbloom@jths.org), or by text using Remind. Students (and parents) can sign up for Remind by texting @bloomapes to 81010. Contact information is completely private. All messages are sent through Remind numbers and emails, not your personal phone number or email address. Messages on Remind can't be edited or deleted, so there’s a permanent record of every conversation. Every user can download and email their message history at any time. We will also be using Google Classroom throughout the school year. Over the summer on our site , you will have access to electronic copies of the attached assignment, as well as the ability to create and submit your table to for Part 1. If you would like to join our class, please go to [http://classroom.google.com](http://classroom.google.com. Cl)[. Cl](http://classroom.google.com. Cl)ick the “+” sign in the upper right-hand corner. Then click “Join Class.” Enter the code c1g3pis and click “Join.” If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I’m looking forward to an exciting year! You may hand-write or fill in this table on Google Classroom (see instructions for joining our class on the cover letter). I suggest completing the table on Google Classroom if possible, because we will be adding to this chart as the year goes on. | Legislation
