Scoring and Modes

The AP Chinese Language and Culture course is a challenging college-level program that tests students' understanding of the language and culture. It's like taking an intermediate-level college course, where you'll learn about various topics such as family, community, identity, beauty, science, technology, and global issues. The exam itself lasts around 2 hours and 15 minutes, with two main parts: multiple-choice questions and free-response sections. You'll get to show off your language skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The multiple-choice section is quite long, lasting over an hour and a half, and has two parts-listening and reading. The free-response section is shorter, lasting around 45 minutes, but still requires you to write and speak fluently in Chinese. Don't worry if all this sounds like gibberish-Shmoop's online prep course can help you navigate the exam with ease. The course includes a diagnostic test to identify your strengths and weaknesses, as well as practice exams that mimic the real thing. You'll also get access to answer explanations, grammar review, and even a glossary of 500 Mandarin words. Plus, Shmoop's resources are designed to make learning fun and engaging, so you won't feel like you're stuck in enemy territory (or China, for that matter) . AP Exams are coming! We've got online Test Prep for every AP Exam, including Chinese Language and Culture. The College Board owns the AP trademark, but they're not involved in this product, so don't go expecting any official endorsement. The Chinese exam is pretty consistent from year to year, with similar question types, weights, and scoring rules. You'll have two main sections on exam day: **Section IA: Multiple Choice Listening** -This section's got 25-35 questions-You've got 20 minutes to complete it-It makes up 25% of your total score The listening section has two parts. First, you need to identify the next part in a conversation. Then, you'll be asked to answer questions about different types of audio materials, like announcements or conversations. **Section IB: Multiple Choice Reading** -There are 30-40 questions-You've got an hour to finish it-It's worth 25% of your total score In this section, you'll look at various print materials and answer multiple-choice questions. These can include things like notes or emails. **Free Response Sections (I, II, III)** These sections have two tasks each: written and spoken. Written includes narrating a story from pictures and responding to an email message. Spoken involves having a conversation with a series of questions and giving a presentation on a Chinese cultural practice. Check out old exams for free-response questions and scoring guidelines. The exam consists of two sections: reading texts and free-response questions. The latter evaluates students' communication skills in both interpersonal and presentational modes through written and spoken responses. Section II is divided into two parts: Part A, which requires students to write a story based on pictures, and assesses their writing abilities in both modes; Part B, which involves responding to questions as part of a simulated conversation and making a presentation about Chinese culture, thus evaluating speaking skills in the respective modes. The exam's overall grade is determined by multiple components, including interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes, with specific percentage contributions from each. Additionally, it comprises language modalities such as listening, reading, writing, and speaking, all contributing equally to the final score. Ap chinese multiple choice. Ap chinese practice test.
