It also uses over 200 graphemes-distinct letters or groups of letters which represent a single sound. This makes learning to read and write English very difficult, even for adults who have previously learned to read and write their own language. Although there are many good 'phonics' resources on the market, most are expensive and are created for English speaking children (who already know the meanings of all the words) . Additionally, many ESOL/EFL teachers are not trained in phonics, literacy and/or reading instruction. The aim of this mega animal alphabet book is to provide a brief introduction to not only the 26 letters, but also to some of the variety of phonems (ch, sh, th, oo, etc.) and graphemes (i_e, ea, er, ge, ph, etc.) used in English. It does not teach all the graphemes needed to read English, but it hopes to provide a wide exposure to many common phonemes and graphemes while at the same time keeping the words as simple as possible for new English readers. When translating this book to other languages, pleaseadd or delete pages depending on the animal vocabulary of your language. Take pictures of, record and sketch animals in your area to add.
