A classroom scene introduces Ed and Zac as their teacher hands out letters that change their plans. Ed ignores school letters, while Zac reads them because past missed correspondence led to trouble with his mum. Zac discovers a letter advertising a skiing and snowboarding weekend in Scotland, reacting with enthusiasm. Ed responds with excitement at the idea of snowboarding, setting up a competitive, game-like challenge for the next events in the story.
