The study investigates alcohol use among medical students as a potential risk factor for future doctors, considering the broader context of increasing use of psychoactive drugs and alcohol consumption among young populations. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was conducted from July 2015 to May 2016 in a private medical institution in Fortaleza, Ceará. Data were collected using a socioeconomic/demographic/nosographic questionnaire and AUDIT to assess alcohol-related disturbance, with results identifying multiple individual and social risk factors.

The gravity of the problem demands health care and educational efforts to face it.
