Afterword

I like you.

That day, right after we changed seats in the classroom.

The confession written on the handout that was passed around from the back of the room was directed at me.

a handsome boy who was the center of attention in the class — Asamiya Miya .

There's no way someone as dazzling as her could ever fall for a loner like me who lives on the other side of the river.

I suspected it was a prank, but every day I 'm bombarded with requests from behind .

"I fell in love with it because it 's Yamayama ."

"I want to touch Mayama."

Moreover, the affection directed towards me was completely sincere, and at some point, I started to think I didn't dislike it. And yet...

"You don't have to like me."

Seeing Asamiya laughing in such a hurtful way, I was left speechless.

Because I had already fallen in love with her.

What should I do about this love?

First period: I'm confused about my first ever confession.

It was springtime in my second year of high school, and I was just starting to get used to my new class.

Someone somewhere started complaining that "seat assignments by student number are unfair," which led to a seating change being implemented in mid-April at Kitahara High School, where I attend .

And what's more, I got a fantastic seat.

The second to last seat on the corridor side.

For someone like me who immediately sits down at the end of a train car if there's an empty seat there, this was the perfect seat.

I like you.

...Until this printout came around.

A printout that I was told to collect from the back was passed around, and I couldn't help but take a look at it. The sender was, of course, the guy sitting behind me.

At the top of the printout were the words "Asamiya Kosei " and a series of words that looked like a confession, written slightly diagonally. Is some kind of game or something underway that I'm unaware of?

If that's the case, it's not very exciting, is it? There are only men in this line. Well, it's an all-boys school, so there are no girls at the school.

"Hey, are you done yet?"

Onikawa , who was sitting in the seat in front of me, was looking at me with a displeased expression, and it caught my attention.

"Uh, well, um," I stammered, feeling confused and bewildered , and turned around to ask what was going on.

Asamiya, the main culprit behind the delay in this line, propped his chin on his hand and wore a slight smile . His confident expression made it seem as though he was a deliberate offender .

I looked down at the printout in my hand again. It was indeed Asamiya's.

"Asamiya, um, this, this"

Rather than trying to ascertain their true intentions, I cautiously asked if it was really okay to just pass "this" on as is.

There's still time. I should be the only one who knows about this.

"Ah," Asamiya said, sounding as if he understood.

Asamiya hesitated for a moment, seemingly unsure of what to write , before quickly erasing the words that had been bothering me with an eraser.

Then he hands it to me with a "Hmm." The confession printout, which had been treated as if it had never existed, is finally passed on to Onikawa. He glares at me with a look that seems to say, "Hurry up and pass it on," but no matter how I think about it, it's not my fault.

...What was that just now?

The printouts, safely collected by the homeroom teacher, were gathered into a single bundle and tapped together on the teacher's desk. I began to wonder if that one, which was supposed to be lost among them, might have been directed at the teacher.

But, a homeroom teacher? Is that even possible? Her face and body are kind of square. I don't see any sex appeal in her at all, but I guess that's just how it is to each individual.

If Asamiya likes her homeroom teacher, then all we can do is watch over her. But I can't ignore the ring sparkling on her left ring finger.

Assuming the homeroom teacher is also a possibility, did Asamiya really have someone she liked in this row?

Asamiya, who was sitting behind me, wasn't exactly friendly, but his face was so strikingly handsome that people were calling it "incredibly beautiful."

Apparently, he's popular with girls from other schools too. So who exactly fell in love with Asamiya?

"Mayama, over here"

During break time, Asamiya called me over, and I awkwardly nodded and left the classroom.

I quietly observed, following behind Asamiya, who was taller than me.

Apparently, good-looking men look cool even from behind.

Seeing that confession was beyond my control.

No matter how I look at it, I can't imagine that printout was written for any of the people in our line.

If it's not the intimidating Onikawa from the rugby club, then before that there was Takahashi from the swimming club who loves to take her clothes off , and before that there was Inazawa , who 's called "Contact" because she dropped her contact lens on the first day of school ... who was it before that? Anyway , there's no one who seems like a suitable person for Asamiya to confess to.

It's overwhelmingly more likely that it's either a game or a prank.

While I was thinking something along those lines, Asamiya stopped on the landing of the stairs and turned around.

"Oh, I wrote that in Mayama."

"……yeah?"

"earlier"

I'm sure it refers to that printout. I understand that much. But the only thing I don't understand is that it was written for me.

"Me...? It's not a case of mistaken identity."

I wrote it in Mayama Hare . "

"...Then it's me."

In the first place, I should be the only one named Mayama in that classroom.

What surprised me was that Asamiya knew my first name. It's extremely rare for anyone other than family to call me by my first name.

"I thought I should apologize if I made you feel bad."

"It's not that I dislike it..."

Even if Asamiya wrote that to me... well, I don't really think so.

If anything, the bigger reaction is "Was that me !? "

However, I didn't expect that the reason he called me wasn't to silence me or anything like that, but to apologize to me. He's such a kind man, even considering whether I might have made him feel bad.

"Um, is this some kind of prank?"

"That's not true."
