FAQs

What supplemental information must the owner complete for the ADU?

The agreement requires the owner to provide selections and matching specifications for window and trim colors, roof material and color, and other required items such as sewer/wastewater and utility-related selections.

Are fire sprinklers required for this detached ADU?

Fire sprinklers may be required depending on whether the existing residence has sprinklers and the property’s location within a very high fire hazard severity zone. The document also provides code-based conditions under which the ADU may be exempt.

What are the utility connection and permit requirements for sewer, electrical, and gas?

The ADU must connect to the specified sewer main/lateral arrangements and septic may require health department approval. Electrical and gas service upgrades or new services require separate permits, and equipment specifications must be kept onsite for the county building inspector.
