[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) Prologue A ugust “Who would’ve guessed we’d all be single mamas in Harmony Valley, right back where we started?” Mina DeWitt wondered aloud to her three friends. “Not me.” “Certainly not me.” “Not in a million years.” The conversation turned to the joys of motherhood, followed by the pitfalls of falling in love with the wrong man. And because Mina didn’t believe in love, she let the discussion her childhood friends were having flow around her. Instead, Mina sipped her wine, wondering if she’d made the right choice in moving back home to Harmony Valley, a small town in a remote corner of Sonoma County, California. Living with her grandmother, life here was a far cry from the one she’d led in San Francisco. Not that Harmony Valley was without its charms—a few interesting restaurants, a fantastic bakery that served great coffee, and the small, charming winery where Mina and her friends were currently hanging out, their children playing nearby. Mina’s five year-old son Liam sat in the dirt with a red chicken in his lap, gangly legs folded beneath him, his black curls ruffling in the breeze. Her little dynamo was almost certainly going to ask Mina for a chicken on the way home, if not sooner. And if it wasn’t a chicken he’d ask for, it would bea puppy or a little brother. Those were his regular requests. Mina would be happy if all Liam wanted was what she wanted—anonymity and a chance to live a normal, ordinary life.
