I have had the opportunity to speak to a number offirst-time delegates within the past severa months.Their mmnn question is "what do I need to do andneed to knowan a delegate?"The best advice that eanbe givenis to keep your wits about you and let yourcommon sense prevail. An association, such m CNA,should be a means to an end,not anend to itaelf. We came to the 1993 House with many challengesand opportunities. We know the complexity of ourmission and the natural jeopardy in the work wemust do to honor our stewardship to the publie.Weknow that a measure of risk will always aceompanyour ability to speak for nure and nursingWe canminimize that risk through sensitivity to ane anotherand tolerance of divergent points of view.Over time, our eapacity to accommodate and thrive on ourdiversity is more apparent;however,me still havemuch to learn about working together, consensusbuilding and objective listening.Let's try some ofthese akilla at the House of Delegates an we map outthe future on CNA.I look forward to seeing you onOctober 21and 22,1993.
