Keats Good Health Guides presents DHEA as a key youth-related hormone and explores its role in immune function, mood, hormone building pathways, and overall well-being. The guide links DHEA deficiency to major age-related diseases and discusses oral replacement as potentially beneficial. It also explains DHEA’s production from cholesterol, how enzymatic changes may occur with aging, and how DHEA participates in glucose metabolism and stress-response feedback loops involving cortisol.

DHEA is deficient in every major disease, including obe-sity,diabetes,high blood pressure, cancer, various immunedeficiencies, coronary artery disease and autoimmune disor-ders.Oral replacement of DHEA appears to be of benefit inall of these illnesses with no significant reported complica-tions.On the other hand, natural enhancement of DHEAlevels is now feasible and at least from a theoretical pointof view, much more desirable. DHEA is manufactured in the body from cholesterol;yet it is interesting to note that DHEA levels often declinewith aging while cholesterol levels increase. This factleads to sp

FAQs

What is DHEA and why is it important?

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is described as the most abundant hormone in humans and mammals and an essential component in many physiological functions. It is linked to immune system activity and to general well-being and mood.

How does DHEA relate to aging and disease?

The text states that DHEA levels often decline with aging while cholesterol levels increase, suggesting possible enzymatic changes. It further claims DHEA is deficient in major diseases and that oral replacement may provide benefit without significant reported complications.

What role does DHEA play in stress response?

The guide explains that DHEA is involved in glucose metabolism and that stress intensity and duration relate to a glucose and glucocorticoid feedback inhibition loop. It describes feedback interactions among cortisol, the hypothalamus, CRF, and ACTH.
