A Funny Sort of Minister introduces Miss Charlotte, an unconventional old lady who guides children through odd, imaginative lessons such as using spaghetti as a ruler, sorting books by color, and teaching footballers how to lose. The story centers on her close companion Gertrude, a rock she talks to aloud, which makes others think she is “bonkers.” Yet children across many schools share her habit, confiding secrets to everyday objects like toothbrushes and pebbles.
