It was so frustrating! 2 Grandma came in to talk with Akara .”You know you can’t go around changing other people’s things, Akara .” ”But Grandma, I know how to make things look amazing!” ”Dad’s taxi looks so much more friendly with stuffed animals in the windows .” ”He likes stars, so I thought he would love the glitter all over his wall!” ”And Mom is always talking about the sun, so I don’t understand why she doesn’t like the big yellow circle I drew on the ceiling.” Grandma smiled,”You know, you remind me of my friend’s daughter, Mealea, when she was young. She’s an interior designer now. She decides how walls, windows, and furniture should be placed in a building, so they make people feel good and comfortable when they walk in. And she also gets to decide how the rooms are decorated. It’s all part of being an interior designer.” ”Wow, that sounds amazing.” Akara sighed. ”I wish I could do that.” ”Let’s see if Mealea can stop by,” Grandma said. That weekend, Mealea came over for tea. Akara immediately started sharing her plans for the house. ”First we’re going to wrap everything in yellow ribbon because yellow is the best color in the world. Then we’re going to add red bells, then ” . . . ”Wow,” Mealea interjected,”That sounds very original. What are you redecorating?””My mom’s kitchen!” exclaimed Akara .”Then you and I can redesign the living room . I have the best ideas.” Mealea listened to all of Akara’s ideas. ”I love your imagination, Akara . That’s an important skill if you want to be an interior designer,”Mealea said. ”But the first thing that an interior designer needs to know about a job is who they’re designing for and what that person wants.”
