The guide also clarifies the difference between nationally representative and user percentiles, emphasizing their importance for gauging student performance relative to peers. It further outlines the calculation of the Selection Index, a key metric for National Merit Scholarship consideration, providing qualifying scores for Commended and Semifinalist ranges. The document highlights that PSAT scores are primarily diagnostic tools for SAT preparation and are not sent to colleges. It notes the heavy emphasis on algebra in the PSAT math section and reassures students that scores tend to increase on subsequent SATs, especially for those starting with lower scores. The seminar content aims to demystify the PSAT reporting and prepare students for future academic assessments.
