They reached the place called the Mount of Olives just outside the city of Jerusalem. Jesus said to two of his disciples,“Go to the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will see a young donkey. Untie it and bring it to me. If anyone asks what you are doing, simply say,‘the Lord needs it.’” The two disciples found the donkey just as Jesus had told them. As they were untying it, its owners asked,“Why are you untying our donkey?” They answered just as Jesus had instructed them and they allowed them to take the donkey. Then they brought the donkey to Jesus and threw their cloaks on the donkey’s back. Jesus got on the donkey and rode toward Jerusalem. As Jesus rode toward the city, many people spread out their garments or cut leafy branches from the trees to lay in front of him on the road.
