this week \nHello Year 1 families, \nThank you for allyour continued support. \n# The Year 1Team\n\nPlease read every dayfor at least ten minutes and practise handuriting letterformation. \nPlease Reading Award:Poppy \n# Year i Weekly News Round-up \n\nThis week brought us the Autumn Equinox. As the leaves surround us,outdoors turn into golden colours and we alsocontinue to notice and observe the changes of the seasons with the weather being part of our year-long Science study.Ifyounotice the temperature change or the forecast changing this week you can see, think and wonder how else we record thosechanges in our world? \nMeanwhile our English learning has been launched with a new book using action story-telling to re-tell a traditional tale:\"The Little Red Hen\".Throughout the week,we have been learning the story off by heart, and using our story maps to helpus. Here's a link to help re-cap and help your little ones tell the story at home:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdv.JZD-cplg-Let us know how you get on! \nMaths challenges have been keeping us on our toes all week!We have been:practising writing numbers in words, countingon from any number and finding missing numbers in consecutive groups. All of our work is looking at numbers to 5 or 10,deepening our knowledge and using our oracy skill to start being able to explain and reason our thinking when faced with amaths challenge:5,_,7,8,9...For instance,we have been practising playing the game\"Sh!Sh!What's the missingnumber?\",then relying on our consecutive number knowledge to fill in the gaps.Number facts will build great foundationsfor all our math-magicians core development in the coming years. \nIn Art,our London drawing study has continued and we have been looking closely at the London skyline, noticing the shapeswe can see in the makeup of Tower Bridge,Big Ben and our favourite, the London Eye.We used colour pastels on black paperand love the vibrancy of the results-check out our Instagram@willowbrooksrtgst to see some of the results. \nAll week we have been diving deep into History, following looking at London\"Now and Then\".We made our own familytimeline, discussed new words and phrases, thinking about the \"older generation”and making comparisons with today. We'dlove to see any photos of your great grandparents if you have them,we heard about some elders from our Willow Brookfamilies in discussions. We also have investigated how items around the house have changed over time:a tin bath,a dialphone and a gramophone were of particular interest to our budding Historians \nFinally,we have really enjoyed our Music singing lessons and assemblies where we even sing in Spanish!ICTlessons havebeen a big hit where we have been getting to know our school chromebooks \nCurriculum clubs have been a popular weekly highlight:Games club,Artist of the Month drawing work and STEM paperwindmills plus the,London Walk on the Wildside challenges, have made our shared areas and classrooms come alive withcollaborative learning on Wednesday after-school. \nReading for PleasureChallenge for this week: \nKSr-Imagine you are a character
