If you already have a personal or journal-specific Twitter account, or are interested in \nsetting one up, this document will help guide you. We encourage you to interact with Wiley’s Twitter accounts by mentioning them using the @ symbol in your Tweets as this can increase your audience engagement and reach. We monitor all activity related to Wiley Twitter accounts and, in some cases, track the impact social media has on readership of our journals. Your journal marketing manager welcomes your feedback and questions about Twitter, or about our social media strategy in general. \nWarm Regards, \nYour Wiley Marketing Manager \nThe Basics \nThe \\# symbol \n• Referred to as a hashtag, it is used to mark key topics or phrases in a Tweet. Clicking on a hashtagged word or phrase in any Tweet will show you all other Tweets marked with that word. 1 You can also search by hashtag on Twitter by typing \\# in front of any keyword in the search \nTwitter field. Hashtags cannot include spaces or other characters and count toward the 140 character limit for any Tweet. Learn more \nHandles \n• Handles indicate a user’s identity on Twitter. They appear as an @ sign followed by a Twitter account name. They can be found underneath the user’s name on their profile. Handles make the user’s account \nclickable in a Tweet so that you can view their Twitter profile. Handle \nRetweeting \n• RT stands for retweeting. Retweeting means that another Twitter user has shared your Tweet. Your Tweet will appear on that user’s profile for other users to see, with your Twitter name, handle, and picture. On some platforms, such as Altmetric , your Tweet will begin with the letters RT followed by your Twitter handle so that you are recognized as the original creator of the Tweet. Your Tweet will receive a number next to the retweet button every time someone retweets it. \nModified Tweet \n• MT stands for modified Tweet. When someone retweets a message, but also changes or adds to it, it is considered a modified Tweet. For instance, you may want to add a new user mention to the Tweet if you think that user would find it interesting. Or, you might want to add your opinion to the topic. A user might even modify the link so that it links to the same article, but on a more user-friendly platform . For instance, the Tweet below was modified to mention the handle @WileyInfDiseases and includes an additional link to the article on the publisher’s website. \n1Twitter, Inc. Using hashtags on Twitter [blog post] . Retrieved from [https://support.twitter.com/articles/49309?lang=en\\#](https://support.twitter.com/articles/49309?lang=en#) \nComposing a Tweet \nUse hashtags, but don't overdo it \n• Hashtags make your Tweets more searchable so you definitely want to include them in your Tweets , but use them wisely. \n̶ “Tweets with 1 or 2 hashtags double the chance of engagement,” but your potential engagement drops by 17% when using more than 2 hashtags. 2 \n̶ Whenever possible, utilize hashtags within sentences instead of adding them as stand-alone at the end of the Tweet. Providing context for hashtags creates a clearer and more professional message than a heap of hashtags disconnected from the Tweet’s main statement. This also saves character space in your Tweet which is important for retweets (see below) . \nExamples: \nClaims of ‘shocking variation’ in \nhospital dementia care[ow.ly/XkOV9](ow.ly/XkOV9 @NursingTimes @AmerGeriat)[ @](ow.ly/XkOV9 @NursingTimes @AmerGeriat)[NursingTimes](ow.ly/XkOV9 @NursingTimes @AmerGeriat)[ @](","cbCaiqIMKrEL4y2N","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqIMKrEL4y2N","pdf",671349,"English","# Welcome to Twitter\n## Content to Tweet\n# The Basics\n## The # symbol\n## Handles\n## Retweeting\n## Modified Tweet\n# Composing a Tweet\n## Use hashtags, but don't overdo it\n## Hashtags work best when attracting targeted audiences\n## Keep your tweets short!","[{\"question\":\"How should journal editors and authors interact with Wiley’s Twitter accounts?\",\"answer\":\"Mention Wiley’s Twitter accounts using the @ symbol in tweets to improve audience engagement and reach.
