Being a Wild School provides many opportunities that support teachers and students to participate in handson learning about the natural environment. By sharing information about Wild Schools with parents and peers, you’re helping us share the importance of connecting learning outdoors and grow support for environmental stewardship in BC. \nHere are some ways you can communicate about Wild Schools: \n1. Include information about Wild Schools in your parent field trip notice/permission slip: \nThis is a great opportunity to explain why students are learning outdoors and share how you received funding and support from HCTF that is making this possible. \nSuggested Wild Schools summary: \nThe Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation’s Wild Schools program is a whole-school, three-year initiative for K-9 schools supporting outdoor and place-based learning. HCTF Education supports teachers and students to get outdoors to learn about B.C.’s fish, wildlife, habitats and biodiversity. The Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation believes connecting people to nature is a key part of conservation and is proud to support BC students having outdoor experiences they will remember for the rest oftheir lives. \nOr even easier, use the attached Field Trip Form Template or Field Trip Information Sheet. \n2. Remember to record your outdoor learning adventures for sharing such as: \n􀂃 \n􀂃 \n􀂃 \n􀂃 \nTake photos of your students participating in the activity – a picture really is worth a thousand words! Have students journal or make pictures about their experiences \nWrite down inspiring quotes from students during your outdoor learning \nAsk students at the end of an activity what their favourite experiences were or share about something they have never done before \n3. Share your outdoor learning stories: \n􀂃 Take a moment to tell parents and your school community about your Wild Schools experiences and how your students connected with nature. Even a short paragraph about your experiences can encourage great conversations at home and inspire parents and other teachers to get outdoors with students. Include details to help bring your story to life, such as the expressions on your students’ faces, and how you felt being outside. \n􀂃 Add photos and drawings from your outdoor learning \n􀂃 Did you learn something from your experience that could help other teachers/parents to take students outdoors? Include your suggestions! \nFor more information and resources visit: hctfeducation.ca © HCTF Education \nOnce you’ve written about your experience, consider sharing it: \n􀂃 In your school newsletter \n􀂃 On your school or classroom website \n􀂃 Using social media (include @HCTF_Education and @HCTFBC) \n􀂃 On your school bulletin board \n􀂃 With the media: contact Shannon West at [shannon.west@hctf.ca](shannon.west@hctf.ca) if you need help with this \n4. Thanks for the Acknowledgements! \nWe greatly appreciate when Wild Schools acknowledge HCTF’s support (“Thank you to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation for making this field trip possible”).
