Here are some organic solutions to the problem. Some are more permanent than others. Temporarily solutions for weeds in Cracks Here are some options to kill weeds that should make makeup when weeds are a temporary problem. The boiling water boiling in cracks will kill the weeds if their roots are shallow. After treatment , simply pull or scrape the cut plants out by hand. (You may have to apply hot water more than once. Weeds are true survivors!) Although boiling water does not actually kill mature weeds like lion teeth , which have deep roots , will offer a temporary break from them. Flame welding machine Flame weeds work the same way to boil water , killing the growth of weeds over the soil. Flame weeds produce the best results (weed deaths) when used in dry conditions on small weeds. If used on larger weeds , deeply rooted , the results will be temporary , much like treating weeds with boiling water. High Pressure Washers A high pressure washer , such as those that people use to clean the flooring and sifting , is another way to remove low weeds effectivelycracks in pavement and boulevards. Of course , power washing will not work on gravel , and could jump away hardscaping as well as weeds if used on cracks between small stones or border pavers. The boiling water can be applied several times in order to kill weeds in cracks. Jill Spencer More permanent solutions to kill weedsThe roots of grass and fleshy roots (such as bulbs on pink oxalis , a. k.a. pink shamrock) is a more permanent solution than killing the growth of weeds over the ground. For rooted cracks , cutting knives and forks work well. Cutting knives The extraction of weeds with faucet root from cracks is often ineffective. More often than not , the root turns off , only to sprout again. Cut knives , which often have thin blades and hooks , easily slide into narrow cracks , making it more likely that you will remove the whole root. Hand suppliers Although they are not easy to use against weeds in tight cracks like cutting knives , hand forks have more uses. For example , small forks are must-have to remove weeds from beds without disturbing other plants in the garden. They are also useful for pruning weeds from larger spaces , such as gaps between pavers and stones. Wire brush Regular hardscaping polish with a wire brush is a great way to prevent weeds in cracks. Not only will it remove seedlings , but also seeds of grass seeds , as well as dirt and organic matter that otherwise would encourage seeds to germinate. Preventing grass in Cracks Here are somethat hopefully prevent most of the weeds from coming back through the cracks. Fabric barrier Put the barriers like the plundering fabric under gravel and paver is a good way to suppress the weeds , but only if the soil is cleared of weeds before. If the barrier is placed above the weeds , some of them simply force their way through weaving , and they will be even more difficult to remove. Mulc h and GravelA combination of cleared land , crusher fabric , and mulch or gravel between rocks , stones , and pavers is an excellent recipe for the suppression of weeds. The gravel works better than mulching , as the mulch will break faster , providing a medium where the grass seeds can germinate and grow.
