Columns can be added or deleted as needed from the template, based on the needs of your students. For example, in addition to synonym, you might also want students to list an antonym. Or you might decide that the part of speech is not an important element and delete that column.\nStudents can record directly on a printout of this template, or you can have them duplicate it in their own notebook.\nVocabulary Graphic Organizers – The Frayer Model\nStudents can use a graphic organizer to develop their understanding of new vocabulary terms. Students can then refer to the vocabulary organizers as needed while they are writing. One of the most well-known graphic organizers for learning vocabulary is the Frayer Model.\nHow to Use the Frayer Model:\nGive each student a copy of the Frayer Model template or have them divide a paper into four squares. As you are discussing new vocabulary related to the writing topic, have students write the new word in the Oval labeled “word” or in the center of the page if they drew their own model.\nNext, students will write the definition, list some characteristics of the word, and then write examples and non-examples of those words.\nThe Frayer Model is completely flexible and adaptable to the needs of your students. You can change the four categories to other items such as Using the Word in a Sentence, Alternative Meanings, Synonyms, Antonyms, Definition in my Primary Language, or Sketch.\nSee the next few pages for a blank template you can adapt and some content-specific examples.\nNON-EXAMPLES:\nEXAMPLES:\nCHARACTERISTICS:\nDEFINITION:\nCHARACTERISTICS:\nDEFINITION:\nWORD:\nWORD:\nEXAMPLES:\nNON-EXAMPLES:\nDEFINITION:\nCHARACTERISTICS:\nNON-EXAMPLES:\nCHARACTERISTICS:\nDEFINITION:\nEXAMPLES:\nNON-EXAMPLES:\nWORD:\nWORD:\nEXAMPLES:\nIn a Sentence\nImage\nGreek meaning – rule by the people\ndemos – the people\n-cracy – rule by\nEnergetic, wide awake, eager, fresh\nA system of government run by the people and their elected representatives\nDemocracy\nEnergetic, wide awake, eager, fresh\nThe custodian felt weary after cleaning 10 classrooms and not sleeping well.\nFeeling overly tired due to a lack of sleep or too much work\nWeary\nTired, worn out, drained, exhausted\nSpider, frog, snake, fish, lizard, frog, eagle, duck\nExamples\nHuman, cow, horse, whale, cat, dog, elephant, rat\nCharacteristics\nHave a backbone, give birth to live young, have hair/fur, feed milk to young\nDefinition\nA classification of animals that are warm-blooded vertebrates.\nMammals\nCharacteristics\nFlat shape (not 3D)\n4 sides and 4 corners\nAll corners are square\n4\nDefinition\nA flat shape with four sides and four corners\nQuadrilateral\nCharacteristics\nAntonyms\nNon-Examples\nNon-Examples\nWord Roots\nSynonyms\nExamples\nDefinition\nDefinition\nWord\nWord\nWord\nWord","cbCaidEjfJ4XhJmu","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidEjfJ4XhJmu","docx",197782,"English","# Vocabulary Journal\n## How to Use a Vocabulary Journal\n# Vocabulary Graphic Organizers – The Frayer Model\n## How to Use the Frayer Model\n## Examples and Non-examples\n# Word Roots and Synonyms","[{\"question\":\"What information do students record in a Vocabulary Journal for each new word?\",\"answer\":\"Students list the new vocabulary word, the part of speech, the definition, a synonym, and they draw a picture of the word.
