INTRODUCTION  \nA. The Cultural and Philosophical Significance of Jyotisha The ancient Indian system of Vedic astrology, known as Jyotisha, holds a profound and enduring significance within the cultural fabric of the Indian subcontinent. The term \"Jyotisha\"itself translates to \"the science of light,\" underscoring its foundational purpose: to illuminate the subtle influences ofthe greater universe upon individual human lives. Ancient sages revered Jyotisha as the \"eye of the Vedas,\" a statement that positions it as a preeminent tool for understanding the universe's order and the individual's place within it.  \nOriginally, Jyotisha was not meant only to predict future events. It was designed as a tool for self-understanding and guidance, helping individuals live according to Dharma, or righteous living. Texts such as the Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra explain that astrology helps a person understand the results of their actions and recognize karmic patterns in life.  \nThe philosophy behind it suggests that every soul undergoes experiences for spiritual growth. By understanding planetary influences, individuals can make wiser decisions and maintain balance in life. Data from the National Mental Health Survey of India (2015–16) indicates that about 10.6% of adults live with a diagnosable mental disorder and nearly 15% require active mental-health intervention, showing that psychological stress affects a substantial portion of the population[1] .
