The book explains who it is for and who it is not, emphasizing openness to having opinions challenged and a willingness to practice. It also outlines how to get started, build a personal scouting process, and improve results through consistent effort rather than relying on a “silver bullet.”",{"@graph":14,"@context":72},[15,34,55],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/template/","Template",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/template/presentations/","Presentations",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/template/the-basketball-scouts-cheat-sheet-read-online-free/572717/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/the-basketball-scouts-cheat-sheet-read-online-free/572717.png","ImageObject",442,249,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Margaret","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-20","2026-10-13",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":33},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",{"@type":56,"mainEntity":57},"FAQPage",[58,64,68],{"name":59,"@type":60,"acceptedAnswer":61},"What are the Four Pillars of Effective Scouting?","Question",{"text":62,"@type":63},"The book states that scouting success comes down to understanding four key principles called the Four Pillars of Effective Scouting. If you insist on proceeding as if you know everything at the beginning, you will not succeed, and reading this book will be a waste of your time. \n2 \nHow to use this book \n“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.” \n—John Wooden \nI’m not writing this book because I’ve discovered a silver bullet for perfect scouting. There’s no such thing. \nI have my own process. Other scouts have theirs, and you’ll have yours. \nI’m not going to hand you my process and assure you it will work as well for you as it does for me. It doesn’t work that way. \nWhat I will say is if you choose to create your own process, while keeping these principles in mind and putting in the work, you’ll come out ahead. \nI wrote this book as a guide so you can: \n1.) Figure out how to get started (if you haven’t already). \nThere’s a tendency to think that there’s some huge barrier to entry to scouting a player or a scouting a game, an idea that you need to be a super genius to do so and that you need someone’s permission. \nYou don’t need an NBA general manager to hire you before you can scout a game for yourself. \nYou don’t need anyone’s permission to take the first steps. \nI mean it. \nI didn’t have anybody’s endorsement when I started going to high school basketball games and taking notes. \nIt was scary as hell at first. I had picked up some basic advice from a scout I met before, but I didn’t really know what I was doing. \nBut I took those first steps, and I kept walking, and things started to make sense. And it became a lot less scary. \nSo if you want to get started and you feel afraid, I promise you, I understand. I’ve been there. \n3 \nI’m going to show you how to get started—what to do, and what not to do. \n2.) Develop your own scouting process, put it to work, and hone it along the way. \nThese Pillars are universal; they apply whether you’re scouting your first game or your thousandth. \nLooking back on when I first began scouting, I can see how these Pillars made a big difference for me. And I see how they’re just as important to me now, years later. \nBy keeping them in mind on your scouting journey, you’ll develop an effective scouting process that works for you. \nWho I am \nI’m a basketball scout and consultant. I’ve helped college basketball teams with player evaluation and recruiting, and NBA teams with the NBA Draft over the last few years. \nBut here’s the thing.
