conducts a Career Forum annually whichstimulates the student early in their career to thinkabout the specifics of career selection.Alumni,in-dustry representatives, and faculty have been veryhelpful in making this program successful. \n# Job Interview Folow-Up\n\nThe key point here is to make sure the studentdoesn't stop the process with the interview.A phonecall or follow-up letter is essential to indicate to theemployer that you are interested and will carry theprocess to completion.Thanking the people (i.e..secretaries,clerks,etc.)along the way who were in-volved in the process is always a good idea.Sometimesa word they say to the employer will help the studentget the job.The student must be persistent but alwayspolite. They should be counseled never to attempt tobuy their way into a job with gifts.Expectations for the First Job \nI believe we have an obligation to help the studentthink realistically about their expectations once theyhave accepted the job. They should understand thatsuccess often means tuning into office politics andunderstanding company culture as much as doing agood job of what they were hired to do.They need tounderstand that rank has its privileges and theyshouldn't be too proud to handle some menial chores inthe beginning.Helping the student to understand that agood sense of humor and flexibility may be the twomost important attributes they take to the first job isessential. An old Hoosier colloquialism states that\"You need to remember to ride the hay wagon withyour knees bent.\"This is good advice for all of us.Summary \nIn summary, let me leave you with my ABC's ofhelping the student find the job:ABILITY;BREAK;CONFIDENCE. \n·Ability to identify work-related skills andresponsibilities they want to assume.Decent gradesneed to be coupled with experience,enthusiasm,flexibility,problem-solving ability, etc. \n·Recognizing the break and capitalizing on it isessential.A network of contacts help create an at-mosphere for a break to occur. \n·Self confidence is the key to standing above thecrowd. The student never should lose sight of the fineline between self confidence and cockiness. \n# Job Interviews\n\nMichael E.Bledsoe \n## Synopsis\n\nAs our professional ranks continue to swell withnew candidates,it becomes increasingly more im-portant to train our students in the preparation andexecution of a job interview. \nMany colleges have begun the task of preparingtheir students for what should be considered their \n\"final\"Final but, even more have not.Although allcolleges offer some help with \"Job Placement,\"i.e.,establishing interviews, resume, curriculum vita, etc.,most fall short on one of the most important steps…the interview. \nConcepts such as interview preparation(homework),the \"first impression,\"how interviewsdiffer between Industry and Academia, what to say aswell as what to avoid saying, and finally, how to avoidthe anxiety trap of waiting for the interviewer to callback. \nAs teachers of Agriculture,we have a respon-sibility to our students to assure quality education.Aseducators, our directives must be to make every effortto assure our students the opportunity to exercise theirskills in today's job market. \n# Taking a Job Interview\n\nJoyce Edwards \nThe interview can be exciting and challenging. It isnot something to be taken lightly. It calls for a positiveself-image as well as preparedness to discuss yourself, your capabilities, the company, and why YOU shouldbe hired. This article will deal with the how-to of in-terviewing.The resume gets the interview(in mostcases),but the interview gets the job. \n## The Self Image\n\nThe majority of people in the world today arecontrolled by something called a self-image,or asystem of beliefs about themselves that has been ac-cumulated over time. Most people are not really awarethat they, like a computer, have been programmed. From the very first day of birth, the process ofprogramming begins stemming from the particularcountry that one is born in.The other factors ofprogramming and c","cbCaifnj0th1uRLp","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaifnj0th1uRLp","pdf",616465,"English","# Job Interview
