This will improve your odds of catching the attention of the hiring managersand can make the difference between landing in the “No” pile or scoring an interview! But before we can tackle tailoring the résumé, first we need to decode the job description. \nReading Between the Lines of a Job Ad \nJob titles can be inconsistent. There are often different titles for the same role. \nThe title IT Specialist for one company could be an IT Consultant at another. The terms Analyst, Associate, Senior, Manager can have different meanings for each company. Study the duties and context of the description to decipher what this specific company is looking for. \nBullets are typically listed in descending order of importance. \nFocus on the “hard” and \"soft\" skills listed. Look for \"soft\" skill keywords such as passion, team player, dynamic interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and detail-oriented. Soft skills refer to personal qualities and behaviors that shape how you work and interact with others-things like communication, adaptability, and problem-solving. Show how you've demonstrated these skills in your past experience. Hard skills, on the other hand, are the technical abilities or specific knowledge youʼve learned through training or education-such as data analysis, coding, accounting software, or medical billing systems. If the job ad mentions specific \"hard\" technical skills or programs, be sure to highlight those on your résumé . \nExperience requirement: If the description lists 3-5 years and you have 2, go ahead and apply if your résumé matches the skills needed. It is also helpful to identify if the experience required is in the industry as a whole, or in that role specifically. \nEducation requirement: List degrees that are in progress as well as those that have been completed. If the job ad states \"degree required\", there is a chance the company may still accept a degree that is within a few months of completion. \nThese are three important areas you should identify in a job ad in order to tailor your résumé for that specific role: \nNOW HIRING! \nSTAFF ACCOUNTANT \nJob Description: \nABC Company is looking for a staff accountant with 2-3 years of accounting experience.
