It lists potential hazards and corresponding safety controls, including accredited operators, equipment condition checks, chain-break procedures, kickback awareness, safe working distances, spotters, warning signs, and maintaining an orderly worksite. It should also be used to prioritise those risks that require closer management than others. This is done using a standard risk matrix to provide a “Risk Rating”. The risk matrix uses two measures to determine the level of risk: \nLikelihood – how likely is it that a person will be injured by the risk? \nConsequence – If an injury occurs what would the likely consequences be? \nThe following descriptors are a guide in determining these two measures. \n\n| Descriptor | Outcome Description |\n| --- | --- |\n| Highly unlikely / rare | Remote possibility\u003Cbr>(less than once every 5+ years) |\n| Unlikely | Not expected to occur\u003Cbr>(may occur every 1-5 years) |\n| Quite possible | Occurs occasionally (monthly – yearly) |\n| Likely | Occurs regularly (weekly – monthly) |\n| Almost certain | Expected to occur (daily – weekly) |\n\nLikelihood \n\n| Descriptor | Outcome Description |\n| --- | --- |\n| Insignificant | No injuries |\n| Minor | On-site first aid treatment |\n| Moderate | Medical treatment required, loss of time |\n| Major | Serious injury, hospitalisation |\n| Catastrophic | Death, permanent disability |\n\nConsequence \nThe level of risk is then simply obtained by using the following table and the likelihood and consequence that has been determined for each risk. For example, a risk that has a likelihood of “unlikely” and a consequence of“moderate”will be a Medium level of risk. \n\n| Likelihood | | Consequence | | | | |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| | | Insignificant | Minor | Moderate | Major | Catastrophic |\n| | Highly unlikely | L | L | L | M | H |\n| | Unlikely | L | M | M | H | H |\n| | Quite possible | L | M | H | H | E |\n| | Likely | M | H | H | E | E |\n| | Almost cer","cbCaiu8SmedRg7CP","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiu8SmedRg7CP","pdf",320717,"English","# Risk Identification and Controls\n## Possible hazards and safety controls\n# Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Associated SWMS\n## PPE item list\n# Assessing the Level of Risk\n## Likelihood and consequence descriptors\n## Risk rating matrix and actions\n# Adding Extra Risks and Risk Control Strategies\n## Updating the form and risk cells\n# Project sign-off and acknowledgements","[{\"question\":\"What are the key safety controls for working near chainsaws?\",\"answer\":\"Chainsaws must be operated only by accredited users and kept in good condition with correct maintenance and sharpness.
