C . 20005 \nPublished: September 18, 2020 \nVersion: 1.4 \nStudent Veterans of America Chapter Guide \n1012 14th St NW \n12th Floor Washington, D.C. 20005 \n(202) 223-4710 \n[studentveterans.org](studentveterans.org) \nDear Chapter Leaders, \nSince the founding of Student Veterans of America (SVA), our community of Chapter Leaders has consistently sought to increase accessibility to higher education and positive outcomes for those following in their footsteps. This Chapter Guide is a culmination of more than a decade of feedback and insight on the tools, techniques, and tactics to manage a successful and sustainable student veteran organization, what we call an SVA Chapter, at your campus. This guide is designed to elevate the experience of veterans and military-affiliated students in higher education and enhance the long-term outcomes of being engaged with SVA. Chapters are the heart of SVA, and we hope to see you excel in your service to your fellow students and your campus community. \nWith strong leadership and the proper tools, we have seen new Chapters become prevalent on campus and existing Chapters enhance their commitment to excellence. The task of a Chapter Leader is no small challenge, but your reward will be immense. It is impossible to reference all that encompasses your leadership role in this guide, but we hope it will aid you as you build a foundation for success. \nHere are a couple notes to help you understand this Chapter Guide: \n• When we say “university,” we mean any higher education institution. You may also notice that we say “college,”“school,” or “institution.” We use all of these interchangeably. \n• This guide provides many recommendations but no prescriptive actions. How you operate your SVA Chapter is your decision, so long as you are following the rules and guidance for registered student organizations set by your university. \nIt is our sincere hope that you feel more prepared to be an effective leader for your chapter after reading this guide and implementing best practices therein. Your dedication to serving the student veterans, militaryaffiliated students, families, and allies who make up SVA is inspiring. \nAs your knowledge of our organization and your responsibilities grow, we hope you will provide us with feedback for those who are just beginning on this journey. Thank you for your commitment and service asa leader in this global organization, and as an engaged leader in your community. \nRespectfully, \nDr. Abby Kinch, PhD \nVice President of Programs and Services \nStudent Veterans of America National Headquarters \nTable of Contents \nIntroduction ................................................................................................................................................................... 1 \nWho We Are................................................................................................................................................................ 1 \nOur History .................................................................................................................................................................. 1 \nWhat We Do................................................................................................................................................................ 3 \nWhy It Matters ............................................................................................................................................................. 5 \nChapter Onboarding ..................................................................................................................................................... 7 \nBenefits ....................................................................................................................................................................... 7 \nChapter Requirements ......................","cbCaigwwDObWZZpy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigwwDObWZZpy","pdf",3270758,66,"English","# Introduction\n## Who We Are\n## Our History\n## What We Do\n## Why It Matters\n# Chapter Onboarding\n## Benefits\n## Chapter Requirements\n## Chapter Application\n## Maintaining Active Chapter Status\n# Chapter Officers\n## Recap from Previous Section\n## Chapter Officer Roles\n# Chapter Operations\n## Strategic Planning\n## Relationships with the School\n## Chapter Programming\n## Chapter Meetings","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) Chapter Guide?\",\"answer\":\"It compiles feedback and guidance to help chapter leaders manage a successful, sustainable SVA chapter on campus and improve outcomes for veterans and military-affiliated students in higher education.\"},{\"question\":\"Does the guide prescribe mandatory actions for how a chapter operates?\",\"answer\":\"No. It provides recommendations and guidance, while how a chapter operates remains the leader’s decision as long as they follow the university rules for registered student organizations.\"},{\"question\":\"What topics are covered in chapter onboarding and maintaining active status?\",\"answer\":\"The guide covers onboarding, benefits, chapter requirements, the chapter application process, and how to maintain active chapter status.\"}]","Student Veterans of America Chapter Guide - Version 1.4 - Leadership support | PDF",1789218037,23]
