The most effective way to identify what you have to offer is to reflect on your past accomplishments. It is not only essential groundwork for identifying direction and goals, but also offers readily available information for networking and interviewing. \nSome people feel that identifying and writing about their accomplishments is the most difficult part of this process. If done thoroughly, you will walk away with some clear insights and objectives to support your next professional step. \nWhat IS an Accomplishment? \nAn accomplishment is something you enjoyed doing, did well, or are proud of sharing. It is a successful action you took in response to a challenge or situation, personal or professional. It is something that has an impact on or benefit to an organization, team or individual. It informs the story you will begin to tell about something you are most proud of or may highlight where you can differentiate yourself from the competition. Consider including a story about a failure or weakness. How can you articulate how you were resilient during a challenging time? What is the lesson you learned and how do you do things differently as a result? \nDocument Your Accomplishments \nThe purpose of this activity is to reflect on past work experiences and accomplishments. This will help you to: \n✓ Identify your marketable strengths, skills and patterns as they relate to your interests, and ideal job objective \n✓ Develop the content that will form the basis for your self-marketing pieces – including resume, LinkedIn, cover letter and interview responses \nBe specific and quantify your results whenever possible – i.e. increased profits, reduced expenses, improved sales or fundraising numbers, resulted in efficiency gains (percentage or dollars), improved quality of service, etc. \nDon’t be modest about using testimonials and anecdotal evidence from someone who benefited from or praised you for the work done. \nDe ine t e c allenge o conte t \nDesc ibe t e tas ou needed to com lete \nat actions did ou ta e to com letet e tas \nat as t e im act o ou e o ts \nic s ills st engt s did ou utili e \nSTARS Examples \nNote: For the purpose of t ese e am les, e’ve combined tas s and actions.
