After clarifying the purpose and needs of a target audience, learners develop technical knowledge and practical skills to create image assets and build a responsive website. They explore relevant technologies and current industry practices, then peer-evaluate the usability and functionality of classmates’ websites. The unit emphasizes documenting and justifying design choices, transforming designs into functional webpages, and evaluating the final product in a project folio.","Stage 5 – Industrial Technology Multimedia\nAnyone, anywhere, anytime\nSummary\nStudents develop their understanding of effective web design, including the fundamental principles of accessibility and user experience. After defining the purpose and the needs of the target audience, the unit provides opportunity for students to learn the technical knowledge and skills required to create image assets and build a responsive website. By exploring the technology and current industry practices students gain awareness of the trends in this field. Students will peer-evaluate the usability and functionality of each other’s websites.\nDuration\n15-20 weeks 2.5 hours/week\nOutcomes\nIND5-1 identifies, assesses, applies and manages the risks and WHS issues associated with the use of a range of tools, equipment, materials, processes and technologies\nIND5-2 applies design principles in the modification, development and production of projects\nIND5-3 identifies, selects and uses a range of hand and machine tools, equipment and processes to produce quality practical projects\nIND5-4 selects, justifies and uses a range of relevant and associated materials for specific applications\nIND5-5 selects, interprets and applies a range of suitable communication techniques in the development, planning, production and presentation of ideas and projects\nIND5-6 identifies and participates in collaborative work practices in the learning environment\nIND5-7 applies and transfers skills, processes and materials to a variety of contexts and projects\nIND5-8 evaluates products in terms of functional, economic, aesthetic and environmental qualities and quality of construction\nIND5-9 describes, analyses and uses a range of current, new and emerging technologies and their various applications\nIND5-10 describes, analyses and evaluates the impact of technology on society, the environment and cultural issues locally and globally\n\u0013 HYPERLINK \"https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/k-10/learning-areas/technologies/industrial-technology-2019\" \\h \u0014Industrial Technology 7-10\u0015 Syllabus © NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for and on behalf of the Crown in right of the State of New South Wales, 2019\nUnit overview\nStudents work individually or in small groups on a range of design focussed activities to define purpose and build an understanding of the needs of the target audience and how their website will help the visitor achieve their goal.\nStudents explore design factors which improve the visual appearance and usability of webpages and enhance a users’ experiences.\nStudents' practical skills develop in both the creation and manipulation of digital images and the use of software tools to create webpages. Students learn the concepts and technology that underpin how websites function including an understanding of how HTML and CSS code works.\nStudents learn about techniques that enable the website content to be well organised and accessible creating a more effective website.\nStudents are assessed on their ability to document and justify design choices and apply techniques to transform designs into functional webpages. Students document the processes, including an evaluation of the final product in a project folio.\nResources overview\nPhysical resources\nComputer room access with standard eT4L software installed.
