Purpose \nThe purpose of this standard operating procedure is to support House Managers and House Operators to carry out the necessary screening process for potential employees before commencing an individual in the workplace. \n2. Why is this important \nThe NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission (the Commission) requires all NDIS registered service providers to comply with the worker screening requirements, in accordance with the NDIS Act 2013 and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Practice Standards – Worker Screening) Rule 2018. \nThe worker screening process specifies the standards concerning the screening of individuals who engage in risk assessed roles in the provision of supports or services by registered NDIS providers. \nIt ensures a minimum level of safeguarding for our resident, before an individual commences work in risked assessed role. \nSupporting Independent Living Cooperative (SILC), as the NDIS provider has a responsibility to ensure that the appropriate worker screening for risked assessed roles, has occurred, before individuals commence employment or volunteer work. \nWhere the appropriate worker screening documentation has not been received or satisfied to SILC’s requirement, the individual cannot be rostered on for shifts. \n3. Responsibility \nIt is the responsibility of the House Manager OR the House Operator to ensure the below necessary information is gathered and provided to SILC before the staff member is rostered on for buddy shifts. \nIt is the responsibility of SILC to notify the House Manager/ House Operator once the appropriate screening requirements has been satisfied. This will then enable the individual to commence on SILC’s payroll, be covered by SILC’s insurances, and be rostered on shift. \n4.
