JOB SUMMARY  \nThis is a professional nursing/medical assistant position that serves as a resource to provide quality patient care and is a patient advocate. The Specialty Clinic LPN/CMA provides outpatient care to outreach clinics, dermatology, general surgery clinic and podiatry clinic as directed and schedules surgeries as necessary. Specialty Clinic LPN/CMA provides care to various specialties as requested in the Specialty Clinic. Must have knowledge of the surgical process and normal postoperative courses of surgical patients. Assists with surgical procedures in the clinic.  \nII. ORGANIZATION SUMMARY  \nA. Reports to: Specialty Clinic Supervisor  \nB. Supervises: None  \nC. Key Working Relationships: Outreach Specialty Physicians and their staff, Director of Specialty Services, Medical Staff, PHO Staff, and Administrative Staff and Public.  \nD. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  \nA. Provides care for Mason City Clinic outreach specialty providers, dermatology clinic, general surgery clinic and podiatry clinic and helps to coordinate followup care/testing for all above clinics. In addition, coordinates and/or schedules sleep lab patients in conjunction with Mercy Sleep lab.  \nB. Provides competent patient care to the above-indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting proceduresand treatments.  \nC. Obtain signatures (HIPAA and insurance) and obtain insurance info as needed.  \nD. Has appropriate patient health information, i.e. lab tests and x-rays, etc, available for outreach specialty physicians prior to appointment.  \nE. Escorts patient to exam room, obtains vital signs, height, and weight, obtains and documents subjective data such as chief complaint, medications, allergies, past histories, etc. Acts as a chaperone, and assist physicians as requested.  \nF. Utilizes written policies and procedures and universal precautions when performing laboratory/diagnostic tests as ordered by provider. Reports all critical lab/diagnostic test values to the provider.  \nG. Sets up and assists with clinical surgical procedures as needed.  \nH. Schedules surgical procedures as necessary here at Mitchell County Regional Health Center and sets up history and physicals in preparation for surgery as necessary. Obtains preauthorization on any tests as needed for MCRHC pain clinic, podiatry and general surgery. Sets up pre-procedure testing as needed.  \nI. Enters orders and admission information on the electronic health record (EHR) for same day surgery (SDS) and inpatient surgeries for general surgery, ENT, urology and podiatry. Clinic consults and written orders are taken back to SDS department. Informs surgery if special equipment or circumstances are needed.  \nJ. May be a member of the infection control committee and fills out the infection control surveillance sheets as directed.  \nK. Assists with work release issues.  \nL. Works with Mason City Clinic and centralized scheduling staff on getting approvals from insurance companies as necessary.  \nM.
