As pastor of South Fellowship, it has been a joy to journey with you in 2025. We’ve welcomed many new families into our community—families who are bringing friends, finding belonging, and growing with us. We even removed a wall to make room for all the kiddos, and this year we’ve seen our highest children's ministry attendance since 2019. Our Food Bank has fed more families than at any point in its history. I’m so grateful that God continues to entrust us with the care of people who need hope, support, and connection.  \nIn John’s Gospel, Jesus makes an audacious claim: “I am the light of the world.” Think about that fora moment. In the beginning, God said, “Let there be light.” We live in a world bathed in the beauty of physical light—sunrises, golden hours, and warm glows that sustain life. Jesus says that, just as physical light is essential, he is essential. Then he makes a surprising turn: he says, “You are the light of the world.” When we“live in the way of Jesus, with the heart of Jesus,” we shine his light to everyone around us.  \nThis year, our Christmas theme is Light—a fitting reflection for the season. Our Year-End Giving opportunity, “Bringing Light and Life,”comes straight from the beloved Christmas carol Hark! The Herald Angels Sing: “Light and life to all he brings.” What a joy to partner with him in bringing light to the world.  \nSouth has the privilege of participating in so much meaningful ministry, and we fill pages with statistics which tell us so much—but to end, I want to tell you a story. This May, we continued our tradition of baptizing people on Pentecost Sunday. About half of those baptized were adults, and as we listened to their stories, every single one shared a story: they had given up on following Jesus, perhaps even as a child, because of how broken the church seemed. But through our community, Jesus has called them back to him. This is what South does. This is light breaking through.  \nAs we celebrate the birth of the Light of the World, I invite you to prayerfully consider giving toward our end-of-year campaign.
