KIRK & CO \nSimplify Your \nResume \n INTERVIEW HACKS \nSimplify Your Resume \nBUILD IT FOR CAREER NETWORKING PURPOSES \nINTERVIEW HACKS \nThe resume strategy outlined below is designed specifically for sales executives and sales managers. Structuring your resume along these lines accomplishes three goals. One, it quickly gets the hiring manager’s attention. Secondly, it allows them to easily digest the information. Lastly, it gives them the ability to make a brief but accurate assessment of how you can potentially solve their problem and make their life better. \nTEMPLATE \nGo to Google docs. In the upper right-hand corner, click on the “Template gallery.”Choose the “resume Spearmint” template to create your resume. \nFONTS \nPut all of your contact information on the upper left hand corner of the resume. Use a black and white format and “Arial Narrow” font. There is no need to incorporate various colors or fancy graphics. Bolding and italicizing text and making it larger in strategic areas should be incorporated. The standard text throughout your resume should be 12pt. For the title sections, use a font size ranging from 14- 16pt and bold the text. Keep your resume no longer than two pages in length. \nPROFESSIONAL PROFILE \nOmit your career objective at the top of your resume. Create a “Professional Profile.” Those viewing your resume are not interested in your career objective. They are interested in whether or not you can solve their problem. Add a short introduction (2-3 sentences) and label it “Professional Profile.” The goal of this section is to quickly orient the reader by briefly summarizing your career. \nL. C. COM 2 \nSimplify Your Resume \nBUILD IT FOR CAREER NETWORKING PURPOSES \nINTERVIEW HACKS \nPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE-BODY COPY THE X-Y-Z FORMAT \nIn the first bullet point under professional experience, state what you accomplished,“X”. Then, mention how those accomplishments can be measured,“Y”. Lastly, list the strategies you incorporated to accomplish those goals,“Z”. \nIt’s not unusual for one to struggle with this section. Looking back throughout your career and assessing how you helped impact the firm’s bottom line is key not only to assembling a great resume, but preparing to interview as well. \nPro Tip- If you have more information and accomplishments to add to this section, create another set of X, Y, Z bullet points right under the first set, and follow the same sequence. Example below. \nSENIOR REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT Jan 2 0 0 5 - Present \nCapital Asset Management, LLC \n Revitalized California, Arizona & Hawaii territory from $10 MM in annual sales to over $100MM in three years . \n Ranked \\#3 in sales & \\#2 in new client conversions ( Wirehouse, Banks, RIAs) . \n Maintained territory rotation with a meeting schedule of five face-to-face meetings per day. Worked in collaboration with an internal wholesaler to create a daily marketing campaign (based on Don Miller’ s Business Made Simple Marketing Strategies) in order to stay omnipresent with the client base . \nL.
