The Council strongly opposes forced amalgamations and will do all in its power to maintain the Shire’s independence. If the current State Government is re-elected and forces amalgamations during its next term – merging Serpentine Jarrahdale with Armadale and perhaps Gosnells – then the local community will lose its voice and will no longer be heard. \nI am excited to see progress being made towards bringing the Murdoch University veterinary school to the crown land at Whitby Falls. \nByford is a thriving area and work has begun on two new schools to service the growing population – a primary school in the Kalimna residential estate and a high school are both being built. \nExtending the Tonkin Highway further south is a key to the long-term strategic goals of the Shire. A State Government community working group, which has been set up to look at the options, has Council representation on it. Extending the Tonkin Highway would help with traffic congestion and travel times in the rapidly growing area. It would also improve the opportunities for better public transport. \nWe will continue lobbying the State Government to extend the Tonkin Highway to South West Highway, south of Mundijong. \nThere is no doubt we have an exciting year ahead and the Council will endeavour to do all it can to provide stability and leadership to both the community and the organisation. \nBruce Moore \nShire President \nCEO’s report \nI am pleased to present my first report as the Shire’s Acting CEO. \nFirstly, I would like to acknowledge the long term governance of former CEO Joanne Abbiss. \nThis past year has seen some significant achievements for the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire including on the world stage. \nThe Shire took out second place for the prestigious UN-backed LivCom awards last October for its innovative ‘Plan for the Future 2009-2014’ strategic plan in the Project Award (socioeconomic category) . \nAnother honour was bestowed on the Shire with the Healthy Habitats biodiversity program winning a category award in the 2012 National Awards for Local Government. \nThe Shire also won a Road Safety Award in the safe vehicles category. \nThe election of the new Council has bought a stronger focus on customer service. In January the Shire conducted a thorough organisational review which highlighted areas for improvement. The valuable findings of this review continue to be implemented across the organisation. \nOver the year the Shire’s Code of Conduct has been launched, along with the organisation’s internal values and the Customer Service Standards. The values, which were launched over a breakfast, represent the core of what the organisation holds true: Team, Diversity, Innovation, Fun, Trust, Passion, Caring, Knowledge seeking, Resourceful and Rewarding. The Shire’s officers have long had a great deal of pride, passion and commitment to these values and their work in the beautiful Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire. At this time of uncertainty, a consultant is working with staff to help educate on how to continue working effectively in an atmosphere of change. \nThese changes include the risk of amalgamation, the replacement of the CEO and the major changes on Council at the last local government election. \nI look forward to continuing working closely with ","cbCaib58uzxWUl2u","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaib58uzxWUl2u","pdf",5840102,56,"English","# Shire President’s Report\n## Council changes and priorities\n# CEO’s report\n## Governance, achievements, and organisational review\n# Councillors meeting attendance & External Committee Representation\n## Councillors meeting attendance (1 July 2011 – 30 September 2011)\n## Councillors meeting attendance (1 October 2012 – 30 June 2012)\n## External committees representation","[{\"question\":\"What major changes followed the local government elections referenced in the report?\",\"answer\":\"Seven new councillors were elected and two were returned, bringing renewed direction to Council toward being more responsive and attentive to community input.\"},{\"question\":\"What achievements are highlighted in the Acting CEO’s report?\",\"answer\":\"The Shire secured second place in the UN-backed LivCom awards for its strategic plan, won an award under the Healthy Habitats biodiversity program, and received a Road Safety Award in the safe vehicles category.\"},{\"question\":\"Which key issues and strategic priorities are emphasized for the Shire?\",\"answer\":\"The reports stress strong opposition to forced amalgamation, and they outline progress and planning related to the Murdoch University veterinary school and extending Tonkin Highway to support congestion relief and better public transport.\"}]","Shire President’s Report - CEO’s Report - Councillors Meeting Attendance | PDF",1789227800,20]
