CHERNEW: Hello, everybody, and welcome to \n4 our first meeting of the 2023-2024 MedPAC cycle . We think \n5 it's going to be an important and, as always, interesting \n6 and productive cycle . We have a lot of important things on \n7 the agenda . \n8 But before I start, it's important to acknowledge \n9 that we have a big change . Some of you who follow MedPAC \n10 may know that our Executive Director, Jim Matthews, \n11 resigned . Jim had very big shoes to fill . It turns out \n12 there was only one person whose feet were big enough to \n13 fill those shoes, and that turns out to be Paul Masi, who \n14 is the new Executive Director . Apart from being a \n15 wonderful person, which is a prerequisite for the job, he \n16 also has a lot of experience with MedPAC . He was the \n17 Assistant Director for three years before he took the job \n18 that he had immediately preceding this, which was the Chief \n19 of the Medicare Cost Estimates Unit at CBO . \n20 So, Paul, we are thrilled to have you, and \n21 welcome . \n22 MR . MASI: Thank you so much, Mike . I really \n1 appreciate that . \n2 And I'll keep this short because I know we have a \n3 lot of important work to get to . I'm grateful to you and \n4 the Commission for this opportunity . Leading the staff at \n5 MedPAC is a real honor, and I also want to thank Jim \n6 Mathews for his many years of dedicated service to the \n7 Commission . \n8 Returning to MedPAC is a real thrill . As Mike \n9 said, I worked here from 2017 through 2019 as the Assistant \n10 Director, and during that time, I developed a deep \n11 appreciation for MedPAC the institution, its mission, and \n12 our work . \n13 I want to emphasize continuity . So MedPAC will \n14 remain focused on its mission of serving the Congress with \n15 analysis and advice and committed to our principles of \n16 making Medicare better for beneficiaries, taxpayers, and \n17 providers . \n18 Let's get to work . \n19 DR . CHERNEW: And in this case, work entails a \n20 discussion of the context for Medicare payment policy . \n21 Every year in the March report, we publish a chapter that \n22 just discusses broad issues related to the Medicare \n1 program, and so we're going to review that chapter now . \n2 And the person who really deserves all the credit is \n3 Rachel . \n4 So, Rachel, I'm turning it over to you . \n5 MS . BURTON: Good morning . I'm thrilled to be \n6 the first to use our fabulous new slide template redesigned \n7 by our own Tina Jennings and hope you all like our new look \n8 as mu","cbCaiblw6440gqNQ","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiblw6440gqNQ","pdf",590843,9,333,"English","# Public Meeting\n## Agenda and Opening Remarks\n## Context for Medicare Payment Policy","[{\"question\":\"When and where was the MedPAC public meeting held?\",\"answer\":\"The meeting took place on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the Horizon Ballroom in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C.\"},{\"question\":\"What leadership change did the opening remarks discuss?\",\"answer\":\"The commissioners acknowledged that the Executive Director, Jim Matthews, resigned and that Paul Masi became the new Executive Director, with prior MedPAC experience and CBO leadership in Medicare cost estimates.\"},{\"question\":\"What topics are covered in the Medicare payment policy context presentation?\",\"answer\":\"The presentation provides contextual information including recent spending trends, expected factors influencing Medicare spending in the coming decade, the financial status of Medicare’s two trust funds, and affordability of current premiums and cost sharing for beneficiaries.\"}]","September 7, 2023 MedPAC Public Meeting - Medicare Payment Policy Context | PDF",117]
