Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. \n1.2 SUMMARY \nA. This Section includes testing, adjusting and balancing HVAC systems to provide design conditions as indicated by the associated drawings. This Section includes, but is not limited to the following: \n1. Testing, adjusting and balancing of air and hydronic system fluid flow rates at the system and distribution system level to the indicated quantities according to tolerances specified herein. The following systems to be included: \na. Air Systems: \n1) Constant-volume air systems. \n2) Variable-air-volume systems. \n3) Multizone systems. \n4) Induction-unit systems. \nb. Hydronic Piping Systems: \n1) Constant-flow hydronic systems. \n2) Variable-flow hydronic systems. \n3) Primary-secondary hydronic systems. \n2. Measuring the electrical performance of HVAC equipment. \n3. Verification that automatic control devices are functioning properly. \n4. Measurement of sound levels as related to rotating mechanical equipment. \n5. Vibration testing and analysis of all rotating equipment greater than or equal to 10 hp. \n6. Measurement of duct leakage. \n7. Reporting results of the activities and procedures specified in this Section. \nB. The testing, adjusting and balancing of the air and hydronic systems shall be performed by an independent TAB contractor contracted directly by the Owner. \n1.3 DEFINITIONS \nA. AABC: Associated Air Balance Council. \nB. Adjust: To regulate fluid flow rates and air patterns at the system or terminal level. At the system level an example would be reducing fan speed; at the terminal level an example would be changing a damper position. \nC. Balance: To proportion air or water flows within the distribution system, including submains, branches and terminals with respect to design quantities. \nD. Draft: A current of air, when referring to localized effect caused by one or more factors of high air velocity, low ambient temperature, or direction of airflow, whereby more heat is withdrawn from a person’s skin than is normally dissipated. \nE. Independent: Not affiliated with or in employment of any Contractor. \nF. NEBB: National Environmental Balancing Bureau. \nG. Procedure: An approach to and execution of a sequence of work operations to yield repeatable results. \nH. Report Forms: Test data sheets for recording test data in logical order. \nI. Static Head: The pressure due to the weight of the fluid above the point of measurement. In a closed system, static head is equal on both sides of the pump. \nJ. Suction Head: The height of fluid surface above the centerline of the pump on the suction side. \nK. System Effect: A phenomenon that can create undesired or unpredicted conditions that cause reduced capacities in all or part of a system. \nL. System Effect Factors: Allowances used to calculate a reduction of the performance ratings of a fan when installed under conditions different from those presented when the fan was performance tested. \nM. TAB: Testing, adjusting, and balancing. \nN. TABB: Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing Bureau. \nO. TAB Specialist: An entity engaged to perform TAB Work. \nP. Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) Agent: The entity responsible for performing and reporting the TAB procedures. \nQ. Terminal: A point where the controlled medium (fluid or energy) enters or leaves the distribution system. \n1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS \nA. LEED Submittal: \n1. Air-Balance Report for LEED Prerequisite IEQ 1: Documentation of work performed for ASHRAE 62.1, Section 7.2.2, \"Air Balancing.\" \n2. TAB Report for Prerequisite EA 2: Documentation of work performed for ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1, Section [6.7.2.3](6.7.2.3) – “System Balancing.” \n1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS \nCoordinate timing of submittals with Division 01 Sections “C","cbCaip2Nw4XruQAX","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaip2Nw4XruQAX","pdf",212096,29,"English","# Part 1 - General\n## Related Documents\n## Summary\n## Definitions\n## Action Submittals\n## Informational Submittals\n## Quality Assurance","[{\"question\":\"What does Section 230593 require for HVAC system work?\",\"answer\":\"It requires testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems to meet design conditions, including air and hydronic flow measurements and related performance checks.\"},{\"question\":\"Which air and hydronic system types must be included?\",\"answer\":\"Air types include constant-volume, variable-air-volume, multizone, and induction-unit systems; hydronic types include constant-flow, variable-flow, and primary-secondary hydronic systems.\"},{\"question\":\"Who performs the TAB activities and what qualifications are required?\",\"answer\":\"TAB work must be performed by an independent TAB contractor/professional services provider certified by AABC or NEBB with at least five years of relevant experience, unless waived by the specified authority.\"}]","SECTION 230593 - TESTING, ADJUSTING, AND BALANCING FOR HVAC | PDF",10]
