Activities associated with the job include emptying trash disposal containers and other household debris into garbage trucks for disposal and cleaning up debris along roadways when required. Additional activities include directing traffic and guiding the truck operator in congested areas, cleaning the refuse truck and equipment and emptying and rebagging trash containers along city streets. Job duties require knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of assigned equipment and tools, sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job in a variety of weather conditions and the ability to consistently follow daily instructions and perform assigned job duties. Incumbents may be assigned to residential collections, commercial collections and/orthe night shift depending upon workload demands.
