The Safety and Security Specialist will play a key role in ensuring the safety of all individuals on school property while promoting a positive and secure learning environment.  \nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  \n1. Assist Safety and Security Coordinator, Administration and the School Resource Officer (SRO) to establish and maintain a safe, accessible, positive, secure and inviting environment for all members of the school community.  \n2. Monitor and control access to school buildings for students, staff, and visitors.  \n3. Patrol school buildings, including but not limited to hallways, classrooms, parking lots, and perimeter to ensure that all areas are secure, including exits, entrances, and unauthorized access points.  \n4. Approach unauthorized visitors accessing the campus/building and route visitors appropriately while communicating with Administration and/or the school SRO as appropriate.  \n5. Monitor surveillance cameras to detect suspicious activities.  \n6. Assist with locker security as appropriate.  \n7. Enforce procedures and policies regarding student conduct, including preventing bullying, altercations, and unauthorized activities.  \n8. Assist in resolving conflicts (both verbal and physical), managing disruptive behavior, maintaining order and de-escalating situations that pose a threat in classrooms, hallways, and at school events.  \n9. Assist with investigations, as appropriate, of student infractions related to school discipline policies and procedures.  \n10. Assist with safety drills, such as fire drills, lockdowns, and other emergency procedures.  \n11. Respond to emergencies, alarms, or disturbances immediately.  \n12. Prepare and provide detailed incident reports for any security breaches or emergencies as requested by the Administration.  \n13. Communicate with local police or other emergency services when necessary.  \n14. Maintain a professional relationship with law enforcement and assist with investigations.  \n15. Collaborate with school officials during emergency situations and assist law enforcement or first responders when necessary.  \n16. Assist with the implementation and revisions of the Crisis and Management Plans for each of the facilities in the district.  \n17. Participates in the Crisis Team meetings with appropriate district staff and local first responders.  \n18. Pursuant to District policy and state law, this position may be designated by the Board of Education to carry a firearm to provide armed security.  \na. If such designation is made by the Board of Education, compliance with all applicable policy as well as local, county, state, and federal law regarding a District employee carrying a firearm is required. This will include obtaining, maintaining, and providing documentation for all required permits, license, and/or any other related credential including but not limited to the following:  \ni. Conceal and carry license  \nii. Security officer license as required by St. Louis County  \nb.
