Student Equity Committee Report: Michelle Beuttel \nNote: The following report was not delivered in its entirety on the senate floor. \nThe committee was delighted to meet Aiden Ely, our new Interim Dean overseeing implementation of the SSSP and the Student Equity Plan. Dean Ely comes to SCC with a wealth of experience. In addition to working at Mira Costa College for 20 years, Dean Ely has worked for charter schools, Folsom Lake College, and the Chancellor’s office. He has extensive experience in grant funding and in running programs for disadvantaged populations. \nDean Ely reported that SCC’s Student Equity Plan was unusually focused when it was presented to the Board for approval. SCC’s plan was particularly impressive in how it outlined specific goals and identified parties responsible for execution of those goals. While a number of people were responsible for putting the Student Equity Plan together, the Student Equity Committee is especially grateful for Dean Jim Collins who headed efforts in completing the plan. \nThe Student Equity Committee will be forming a “community of practice,” also known as the Student Equity Academy. This group of educators will review the literature and make recommendations for future action. They will talk to other groups and, as Dean Collins describes it, be a “seed for organic change.” \nIn accordance with the plan, SCC will be hiring 4 case workers who will be involved in student \nsupport. Committee members are working on the description for the case worker position. Also, SCC will be hiring Faculty Coordinator(s) . This position will include working on a particular piece of the plan and bringing faculty together to discuss and execute plans. \nInformation Items \n1. Faculty Hiring Ranking \nVPI Mary Turner provided us more information about the faculty positions and the way they were ranked by the senior management team. She told us that we will know the number of positions sometime next week. She also told us that she values the senate’s rankings and tries her best to support them as they are, but that sometimes requirements of the college lead her to make different recommendations to the President. Such was the case with the Tutoring Coordinator positon and the second Mathematics position. She told us that the coordinator positon was necessary in order to offer tutoring services over the weekend and therefore spoke to a college-wide need. She also told us that the second Mathematics position was needed because we have too many long-term","cbCaievz2iwhY9H6","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaievz2iwhY9H6","pdf",508025,6,"English","# Preliminaries\n# Announcements\n# Reports\n## Student Equity Committee Report\n## Information Items\n# Decision Items\n## Student Equity Coordinator - 1st reading","[{\"question\":\"What items were approved at the start of the meeting?\",\"answer\":\"The meeting agenda was approved by consensus, and the draft minutes from 11-25-2014 were approved by consensus.\"},{\"question\":\"What did the Student Equity Committee report include?\",\"answer\":\"It described updates related to implementation of the SSSP and Student Equity Plan, outlined goals and responsible parties, proposed forming a “community of practice” (Student Equity Academy), and discussed hiring case workers and a faculty coordinator.\"},{\"question\":\"What was the decision item discussed for the Student Equity Coordinator?\",\"answer\":\"The Student Equity Coordinator position was reviewed for a first reading, with discussion focused on timing for the application period and the non-negotiable requirement of 50% reassigned time.\"}]","Sacramento City College Academic Senate Meeting - Official Minutes - 2014-12-02 | PDF",1789362458]
