If you are on a low shank home machine, you must use 3/16” acrylic thickness. If you are on a machine that is stationary, you may find it helpful to put some type of agent such as Grip Stop Dots or spray adhesive on the templates. Before using, peel any film/paper masking from the templates so you can see through the clear plastic. \n\n| SYMBOL GUIDE | |\n| --- | --- |\n| | ruler foot |\n| | start |\n| | stop and needle down |\n| | back stitching |\n| | |\n\nNote: \n1) When using the template(s) to quilt around you must have a round, thick foot on your machine as well as abase (such as an extend-a-base or ruler base) . \n2) When using the template(s) to quilt around you will be stitching 1/2” larger (the width of your foot) or 1/4”wider if only using a portion of the template (the distance from your needle to the outer edge of your foot) . \n3) You may need to start with drawn/chalked guidelines or seam lines on your quilt. \nSIMPLE BLOCK DESIGN I \nStart with the ruler foot in the center point of your guidelines. Align the S-Shape’s etched line with the vertical center line as shown and the tip butted up against the ruler foot. Stitch Completely around the template. \nRotate the template to the 45° line and again align center lines and tip of the template to the ruler foot. Stitch completely around the template. Continue to rotate the template six more times; stitching around the template a total of eight times. \nCompleted Design \nIf you desire a design with less quilting in the center, start with the shape in first position as before but you will not be stitching completely around the shape. Start stitching at position A when ruler foot is at the horizontal guideline. Stitch around to B when the ruler foot touches the 45° line. Use the illustration below as your guide. \nAB \nIn this design the starting and stopping points are all 1/2” or the width of the ruler foot, from the center cross point of your guidelines. Rotate your template to the 90° line and repeat. Continue rotating 90° a total of 4 times. This will give you 1/2 of the block design as shown. \nFor the 2nd half of the design move and align the template as before, this time aligned to a 45° line. Start stitching at position A and stitch around to B. \nRotate the template to the next 45° line and stitch around. Repeat for all 4 quadrants to complete the finished drawing. \nCompleted Design \nSIMPLE BLOCK DESIGN II \nYour needle and ruler foot should be at the cross point of your guidelines. Position the S-Shape so that the bottom point is against the ruler foot and the upper curve is 1/4” away from the vertical guideline. Stitch all the way around the template. \nFlip the template to the other side of the vertical line to create a “mirror” image. Starting at the center point, stitch around 3/4 of the template stopping when you meet previous stitching at the vertical guideline. \nAs you can see, drawing around the template will give you a great applique design. \nCompleted Design \nRotate the design created above three more times (or a total of 4 times) to create a wonderful block design. You will need to backtrack 1/4 of the design to return to the center for a continuous line design. \nSIMPLE BORDER DESIGN I \nAlign the S-Shape template with both points touching a horizontal line. Stitch from point A to B, stitching only half of the shape. \nSlide template along the horizontal line butting tip of template against the ruler foot. Continue stitching around the bottom of the template following the arrows as shown. \nContinue moving and stitching 1/2 of the template following the red arrows for desired length.
