Existing regulation, standardization, and risk management methodologies do not adequately address the cyber threats the dependent environment of PICT systems is exposed to. In the SPort project, we identified and addressed these needs by proposing a collaborative environment offering customized security management services targeted at the unique needs of port authorities. The success of S-Port has been deployed in three commercial ports, so as to assist them in self managing security and risks. In this paper, we present the main objectives and core functionalities of S-Port environment, as well as the overall results of its assessment. \nKeywords--Security Management; Risk Assessment; Critical Infrastructure; Port Information System; Collaborative System. \nI. INTRODUCTION \nTransportation is a key economic sector, facilitating the movement of people, food, water, medicines, fuel, and other commodities. Therefore, port authorities play an important role in the international trade and economy environment. In the European Union (EU) almost 52% of the goods traffic in 2010 was carried by maritime transport and 90% of the EU external trade took place through the maritime sector [1] . \nTransportation infrastructures face multiple threats, ranging from accidents, physical disasters, failures or human errors, to malevolent actions, namely sabotage, insider threatsand terrorist attacks. Examples of the latter are the events in New York and Washington (2001), Madrid (2004), London (2005), and Italy (2012) . The common element of these incidents is the use of transport infrastructure components [2] . \nThe increasing need for protecting transport infrastructures is recognized by most countries; in most surveys the transportation sector is among the sectors recognized as critical [2] . Assessing risk in these critical infrastructures requires a novel approach due to the high complexity, multiple interdependencies, and inherent heterogeneity of the port environment [3] . \nSince Port Information and Communication Technology (PICT) systems host and manage critical and sensitive data, information security management is an essential procedure to assess and treat actual and perceived cyber risks. PICT systems are characterized by the large volume of information processed, complexity and distributed assets. Moreover, they are called to provide a variety of services to users, public bo- \ndies and other critical infrastructures [4] . Existing security standards, best practices, maritime regulation [5][6] and risk assessment methodologies and tools fail to adequately address the specific needs of port authorities for a solid and effective information security management system. \nIn the S-Port project [7], the above mentioned issues, regarding the shortcomings of existing cyber risk assessment methodologies, standards and regulations, were first identified and then actions were taken to address the specific security management needs of PICT systems. In cooperation with the three commercial ports that participated in the project (Piraeus Port Authority, Thessaloniki Port Authority, and Municipal Port Fund of the Island of Mykonos) a novel collaborative environment for the security management of PICT systems was developed. The architecture of the S-Port platform incorporates various collaborative tools; a preliminary proposal can be foun","cbCain8uikezL9lh","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCain8uikezL9lh","pdf",653392,6,"English","# I.
