Below are the details of the new program and application requirements. \nRMI Program Overview \nThe RMI program is managed by the Province of BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport. The program is designed to support small, tourism-based municipalities in building and diversifying their tourism infrastructure, delivering exceptional visitor experiences, and incorporating sustainable tourism practices and products. The City of Fernie is responsible for planning and executing the program within the community. \nThe RMI program supports projects that result in the following key outcomes for resort-based communities: \n• Extend or diversify communities’ tourism seasons. \n• Increase/repeat visitation. \n• Improve the sustainability of the tourism sector. \n• Enhance the visitor experience. \nRMI communities throughout the province complete a multi-year Resort Development Strategy (RDS) every three years. The amount of annual funding is based on a calculation tied to the community’s hotel tax revenues (MRDT). The City of Fernie collaborates with Tourism Fernie on the development of the RDS, as well as some aspects of its implementation and reporting. \nTourism events and animation are an important part of the visitor experience and Fernie’s tourism economy. As such, a portion of the RMI funding supports local tourism events and animation through aspecific funding application program. \nWhat is a Tourism-related Event or Animation? \nTourism events and animation play a pivotal role in supporting and boosting tourism by infusing destinations with vibrancy, cultural richness, pride, economic benefits, and memorable experiences for visitors. \nTourism-related Event \nA planned, date-specific occasion that clearly attracts and is accessible to a measurable number of visitors. \nExamples: festivals, competitions, tournaments, conferences. \nExclusions: private, religious, personal/family, local-only, or political gatherings. \nEvents during peak visitor season are not eligible for funding \nTourism Animation \nAn activity or feature that activates public spaces and enriches the visitor experience by adding vibrancy, entertainment, and engagement. \nExamples: interactive displays, guided walks, storytelling, live music, performances, markets, multimedia presentations. \nUnlike events, animation can be funded during peak visitor season. However, animation may not be funded in shoulder seasons. \nA Visitor or Tourist is defined as someone who meets all of the following conditions: \n• Their primary residence is outside the Elk Valley region. \n• They do not live in the Elk Valley on a seasonal, part-time, or year-round basis. \n• They do not own a secondary residence in the Elk Valley. \nVisitors or Tourists may fall into one of the following stay categories: \n1. Day Visitor – Someone who comes to the Elk Valley for the day without staying overnight. \n2. Overnight Visitor – Commercial Accommodation – Someone staying up to a maximum of 27 consecutive nights in commercial lodging (e.g., hotels, motels, Airbnb’s, hostels, or campgrounds) . \n3. Overnight Visitor – Private Accommodation – Someone staying up to a maximum of 27 consecutive nights with family or friends in Fernie or the surrounding area. \nPeak season is defined as the core summer period and the core winter/ski season, when lodging availability is limited. Tenants should confirm exact dates with Tourism Fernie or review the event and animation calendar to ensure accurate scheduling. Application evaluators will also check for conflicts. \nApplicant \nA non-profit society or organization in good standing that applies for funding and demonstrates: \n• Experience in planning and executing events/animations. \n• Strong financial position. \n• Board appro","cbCaib8XP1tJVtLo","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaib8XP1tJVtLo","pdf",348987,10,"English","# RMI Program Overview\n## Program Management and Purpose\n## Key Outcomes Supported by the Program\n# Tourism-Related Events and Animation Definitions\n## Tourism-Related Event\n## Tourism Animation\n# Visitor and Stay Category Definitions\n## Peak Season Definition\n## Visitor or Tourist Criteria\n# Applicant and Eligibility Requirements\n## Applicant Eligibility\n## Not-for-Profit Organization Requirements\n## Project Eligibility Requirements","[{\"question\":\"Who manages the RMI tourism events and animation funding program?\",\"answer\":\"The program is managed by the Province of BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport, while the City of Fernie plans and executes it within the community.\"},{\"question\":\"What qualifies as a tourism-related event under the program?\",\"answer\":\"It must be a planned, date-specific occasion that clearly attracts and is accessible to a measurable number of visitors, such as festivals or conferences, and it excludes private, religious, personal/family, local-only, or political gatherings.\"},{\"question\":\"What eligibility requirements must applicants and projects meet?\",\"answer\":\"Applicants must be a non-profit society/organization in good standing with demonstrated event/animation planning experience and a strong financial position, and the project must take place in the Fernie area, connect directly to tourism and visitors, avoid conflicts unless partnered, and meet timing requirements after the submission deadline.\"}]","RMI Events & Animation Funding Program Overview - Program and Application Requirements | PDF",1789199753]
