These standards should be followed in the creation and revision of NSDD documents to ensure uniformity.\nGlossary\nAcknowledge Alarm: Alarm state indicating an operator has recognized that an alarm has occurred or opened the alarm event. There are three alarm states: acknowledge, unacknowledged, or released.\nActive/Inactive: A state of a fault or alarm event (i.e., active unacknowledged, active acknowledged, inactive not cleared, or cleared).\nAdversary: Any individual performing or attempting to perform a malicious act.\nAfter Action Report: A summary report documenting the details of an NSDD training or workshop exercise event.\nAlarm: An alarm is a particular type of event generated in the central alarm station (CAS) that requires immediate action/attention by the system operators [i.e., CAS, local alarm station (LAS), and secondary workstation (SWS)] in accordance with radiation detection system standard operating procedures.\nAlarm Profile: Provides a graphical representation of radiation portal monitor (RPM) alarm data to the CAS operator.\nAlarm threshold value: Prescribed number of sigma multipliers above the background value.1\nAlert: An alert is a visual notification issued by the CAS system to the operators (i.e., CAS, LAS, and SWS) intended to bring their attention to a particular event. Alerts can come in the form of pop-up windows, audible tones, and/or visual cues such as flashing, colored entries in the event queues. The forms displayed depend on how the system is configured.\nAlpha Spectrometry: A destructive technique used to identify and quantify radionuclides that decay by alpha particle emission, typically used for actinides.\nBasic Training: Entry level training that is generally provided for new personnel who have little or no background, experience, or formal preparation for beginning a career field or work assignment.\nBlue Border: An international border between official ports of entry on water.\nBulk Analysis: The analysis of either an entire sample or a portion of the sample to determine the average properties of the measured portion.1\nCAS Reports: Reports generated by the CAS software for operators, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other stakeholders to review different aspects of system performance.\nCAS System: The CAS system (also referred to as the “Communications System”) provides those capabilities required to accept, process, display and store data from RPMs; provide images to support alarm and fault event resolution; and to provide interfaces allowing CAS system users to effectively manage the alarm/event processing (i.e. respond to alarm and fault events), and to assess the status of the sites supported by the system.\nCAS Workstation: A computer workstation located at a CAS used by the partner country front line officer (FLO) to operate the CAS system.\nCategorization: Analysis performed at the radiological crime scene to identify nuclear or radioactive materials and assess nuclear security implications and the risk of the seized material to first responders, law enforcement personnel and the public.
