LC 12016  \n1. INTRODUCTION  \n1.1 BACKGROUND  \nThe office of the Auditor General for Western Australia is recognised at section 6 of the Auditor General Act 2006 (Act) . The Auditor General is the Accountable Authority and Chief Executive Officer of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG ), which is the public sector department established to support the Auditor General. The Joint Standing Committee on Audit (Committee ) is required at section 48(1) of the Act to carry out a review of the operation and effectiveness of the Act (the Review ) .  \nAs part of this review, the Committee must, under section 48(3) of the Act, appoint a suitably qualified person (the Reviewer) to conduct a Performance Review and Legislative Review.  \nThe Review is being undertaken in two stages, with the Performance Review having already been conducted before the Legislative Review.  \nThe Performance Review was conducted by Vista Advisory.
