Composition  \nComposition refers to the overall layout of the design. We want an image/design that is easy to look at and well-balanced (i.e. Not too many shadows, not too busy, different features in the design don’t flow well etc. )  \nQuestions to consider:  \n• Is the arrangement pleasing to the eye?  \n• Is the design framed appropriately? (i.e. there aren’t random blank spaces)  \n• If there is a main center of interest in the design/image, is it well placed in the frame?  \n• Does the background contribute to overall flow of the design?  \n• Will the design seemingly transfer well to a design appropriate for a t-shirt/apparel? Are lines clear/crisp? Can you see the image in black or white?  \n• Specifications: Did the artist follow the specifications given in contest rules: “-if drawn, needs to be clear, legible and easy to convert to an electronic image; -All electronic images must be at least 10 MP and in pdf, gif, jpeg/jpg format.”  \n2. Originality  \nOriginality refers to the image/design’s uniqueness and ability to stand out. We want animage/design that speaks to our mission and Reinstein Woods as a whole (i.e. plants, animals, connection with the community, environmental education programs etc. ) .  \nQuestions to consider:  \n• Does the image show an original subject?  \n• Or, does it show a standard subject in an interesting way (make the ordinary extraordinary)?  \n• Have you seen something similar before?  \n• Does the design/image make you think of something else?  \n3. Artistic Merit  \nArtistic Merit refers to the passion and sensitivity the artist brings to the subject. We want animage/design that accurately depicts Reinstein Woods, but also shows a love and affinity for the outdoors and/or nature.  \nQuestions to consider:  \n• What is your response to the design/image in terms of aesthetics, emotion and level of interest?  \n• Does the image effectively convey a mood or emotion?  \nPlease indicate your rating for each criteria on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being “unqualified”, 5 being“exceptional”) .  \n1 – Unqualified: Artist did not follow contest guidelines. Design/image shows significant technical defects (i.e. blurred lines, scratches/blemishes, lack of contrast etc. ) . Design/image is poor quality.  \n2 – Deficient: Design/image shows major technical defaults. Design/Image is unoriginal/uninteresting. Design/image is below average quality.  \n3 – Average: Design/image is acceptable. Design/image is technically correct with only minimal defects.  \n4-Commendable: Design/Image is good quality. Design/Image is interesting and original. Design/image conveys artistic passion. Design/Image accurately depicts Reinstein Woods.  \n5 – Exceptional: Design/image shows no technical defaults. Design/image is of excellent quality.  \nDesign/image is interesting and original. Design/image conveys artistic passion. Design/Image accurately depicts Reinstein Woods.  \nThe top three designs/images with the highest collective rating will be placed on the website to be votedon by the general public. A rating of 15 is a perfect score.
